Essex.
6 July 2008
The final day of Beats International is the day Big Dance 2008 is
celebrated across England. It is a whole day of celebration with
workshops, demonstrations and performances taking place at three
locations in Southend on Sea, Essex. There are opportunities for
people of all ages to get involved, and the events are free of charge
and do not need booking, so just come along and join in at: Southend
Pier, The Royals Shopping Centre and Victoria Shopping Centre.
Beats International includes performances from participants taking
part in Beats International events, together with a performance
of a specially commissioned dance piece by professional dance company
Hofesh Shechter. Hofesh Shechter Dance Company is performing in
the six towns across the Eastern Region that are participating in
Big Dance 2008, and is funded by Arts Council England, East.
'Hofesh Shechter Company present an explosive extract of audience
favourite 'Uprising' - a chance to see Shechter's acclaimed work
for 7 men up close as the dancers wash the stage with boyish energy
and distinctive style. Young and urban and very much in Shechter's
own world of fluid movement and complex dance sequences this highly
charged work, set to a throbbing percussive score composed by Shechter
himself, leaves audiences buzzing.'
